FAMEDs Newsletter #15

FREEDOM OF ACCESS TO MEDICINES NEWSLETTER #15

July 14, 2011

IMPORTANT: SEND YOUR AVASTIN COMMENTS TO THE FDA'S OFFICIAL DOCKET BY JULY 28, 2011

If you were unable to speak the FDA's hearing (or even if you did speak) but want to register your opinion in the official record, you can do so in two ways, one online, the other through the mail. Comments must be submitted by July 28, 2011.

Electronic comments may be submitted by going to:
www.regulations.govs

If you have any problems with the above link, this is an alternative approach:
www.gene.com

You may also submit written comments to the Division of Dockets Management, (HFA-305), Food and Drug Administration, 5630 Fishers Lane, Room. 1061, Rockville, MD 20852. Please remember to make a reference to the Docket No. FDA-2010-N-0621

What you write it up to you. It is extremely important that you use this opportunity to enter your opinion in the official record. If you do not like any aspect of the Avastin decision or process leading up to the decision, this is your chance to make your opinion known. While some may be discouraged at the way the ODAC committee voted, this entire matter is far from complete. So speak now or forever hold your peace.

MEET THE ODAC COMMITTEE

Is it just us or does the majority of the committee that ruled 6-0 against Avastin look less than attentive? Was the patient representative Natalie Compagni Portis sleeping?

PLEASE SUPPORT FAMEDS WITH A SMALL TAX-DEDUCTABLE DONATION

FAMEDS has been the most quoted source in defending Avastin for women with metastatic breast cancer with over 1,000 references estimated in the written media. It has also been on more radio programs than any other defenders of Avastin.

The protest outside the FDA was well covered by major media including scenes shown on NBC Nightly News. An interview followed on Fox News. This protest and collateral efforts was organized and funded by FAMEDS.

FAMEDS has been funded mainly by a small number of Avastin patients, their families and friends. We have not taken a dime from any drug companies.

Yet our fight is not done and we need your support to continue this fight. Please consider donating to FAMEDS to help defray these costs. Whatever you can send will be greatly appreciated.

By and large the major breast cancer groups and indeed the rest of the cancer community have been far too silent and passive in advocating for these brave women. Yet these larger advocacy groups continue to collect huge mountains of money without representing the Avastin women. We at FAMEDS do not take a cent in salary for our efforts so every dollar you provide is used to support these women.

We thank you for your continued support!

PLEASE SIGN THE FAMEDS PETITION

If you have not had the opportunity to do so prior to now, please sign the FAMEDS petition at www.fameds.org

Thank you for your support – it is vital to the Avastin women that they know that you stand with them in this battle.
